Yesterday (Monday) we hit Corn Hill Beach, which is as close to home beach we have. It's a great spot on the bay where we can relax and let the kids play in the relatively calm water. Of course, the weather wasn't that calm with winds 15-20 from the SSW. There was a lot of chop, which made the water fun! I launched Big Red,
Big Red is not a board an experienced paddler would be seen dead on. It's a pure beginner board, 45 lbs of blown plastic in a 9'9" long, 34" wide shape. It's clumsy and heavy, but I love paddling it. Big Red was a blast in the chop -- pure fun! I was going up and down on waves that would have wiped me out a year ago. Half an hour in that, and I didn't 't fall off once. So much fun, like riding a roller coaster.
The craziest thing that happened was when I was near the Pamet River entrance. There was the noise of a huge engine, like a commercial boat was leaving the harbor. Suddenly a small seaplane shot out from between the two jetties. It was a pretty neat craft, but I wondered as it took a turn almost above me how safe it was to zoom out of the harbor. Still, it was pretty cool.
