Ivan on his board.
The view north. You can see the peninsula of Croton Point sticking out into the river. It's the low line of trees in the center of the photo. It attaches to the east side of the bank (my side) a little to the left of the photo.
View to the south. We launched from that little beach. Beyond is Sing-Sing prison.
Ivan uses a soft rack for his VW Passat.
We paddled north past the industrial remains of Ossining against the tide and wind. I pointed out a couple of sites, like the factory where my grandfather worked for thirty-five years and. Then we reached the trestle to enter the Croton River. The Croton River flows out of the Croton Reservoir and this little waterway supplies much of the water to New York City. You can paddle up the river about 3/4 a mile. It's a beautiful trip. You get to a point finally where you can't paddle any more, and that's an ad hoc swimming hole.
What a gorgeous spot!
We paddled back with the elements in our favor. Ivan and I had some great conversations and I feel like I just made a new friend.
