Cape Cod Diary 7: In which rain interferes

It rained much of the morning so we took a trip to the Highland House and Lighthouse. What is it about a lighthouse? There's something so romantic and evocative about these structures. By their very nature a lighthouse stands lonely at the edge of a cliff or on a pile of rocks, sending out its beacon. The Highland Lighthouse is particularly beautiful on the inside. The stairs are a gothic ironwork and seem almost out of place in as rugged a structure as a lighthouse.

Gabriel and I went to the top. The view was lovely but hazy. The light was spinning to, and that was cool. Gabriel loved it, and no surprise; who doesn't love a lighthouse?

After the rain stopped, we spent an afternoon on the beach. I paddled up the Pamet River again, this time going farther than I had before. Once I got to a calm spot, I did some sit-ups and stretches, which made me feel manly, but a little self-concious. I returned to find Kirsten had met a mermaid.

It's great being married to an artist!

She took Big Red out for a paddle a little later. God I love that big plastic board. It doesn't paddle badly and you don't need to coddle it.
