I'm attempting my first serious distance paddle. On Thursday morning (8/8) we wife will drop me off in Poughkeepsie, NY and I will paddle 33 miles downstream to Peekskill. I'm expecting this will take me all day.
Equipment:
sunscreen
hat
gloves
waterproof digital camera
iPhone
waterproof bag
waist PFD
2 CamelBaks (one filled with electrolyte water, one plain water)
Food (in waterproof bag):
extra (full) water bottle
1/2 dozen assorted power bars
tamari almonds
wasabi peas
two sandwiches
Yes, this idea is a bit crazy, but I've been wanting to do this for a long time. It's almost twice the distance I've done before, but it's not crazy. High tide is a little late, just after 1:30 PM, but this will be enough to carry me through the last leg of the journey through the Highlands.
I want to bring the tamari almonds and wasabi peas because I get a little sick of the sweet taste of most “fitness” products. Sometimes I just want something savory to eat.
I hope to launch by 8:30 AM. I want to lunch in Cold Spring, about 18 miles downstream. I hope to get there by high tide.
One addition: band aids for blisters
ReplyDeleteOzzy Osborne has a song for you...it's called "Crazy Train." If this trip is successful, you will have usurped my position as crazy endurance athlete in the family.
